Knee MRI Biomarkers One Year Post ACL Injury

Our systematic review investigating knee MRI barkers associated with structural, functional and symptomatic changes at least a year after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury has been published in this month’s Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Open.

The review led by Dr Oliver O’Sullivan identified 11 studies involving 776 participants.

Differences in tibia position, bone morphology, presence of effusion and synovitis, and cartilage/subchondral bone composition could be detected as early as 12 months after ACL infury

Our analysis suggests that both structural and compositional changes to bone or cartilage contribute to post-traumatic osteoarthritis.

This review is part of a collection of studies investigating Biomarkers and Joint Pain in Military Osteoarthritis (Bio-Mil-OA) and a PDF of the article can be downloaded here.
