Patient and Public Involvement

I am NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre’s Musculoskeletal theme Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) strategic lead having developed and recruited a new Musculoskeletal (MSK) patient advisory group providing support for ARUK Pain Centre, ARUK Centre for Sport Exercise and Osteoarthritis MRC ARUK Centre for Musculoskeletal Ageing Research and NIHR Nottingham BRC MSK theme.

As well as providing support to researchers alongside liaising with PPI representatives I am involved in various PPI training. I am currently module convenor of  the medical degree (BMedSci) undergraduate module on Patient and public involvement in research (started Autumn 2018). This module is also offered as a one-day training course for staff and research students at the University of Nottingham and NUH trust. I also deliver PPI workshop lectures to Master in Public Health and Global Public Health students and on Grant Writing Training course for School of Medicine researchers.

For my PGCHE Educational Inquiry Project I reviewed the success of the implementation of the SPA PPI Buddy Scheme at the University of Nottingham, and presented it at the BRC conference in November 2022.

In addition, I am the MSK representative for East Midlands Sharebank, which provides reciprocal PPI training across the East Midlands.
