Sport, Exercise & Osteoarthritis Research 2022 Intern Scheme

Applications are now open for the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis Research Versus Arthritis 2022 Summer intern scheme.

The 8-week scheme, is open to health clinicians or health scientists due to graduate in 2022 or a medical student in the third year or later with an interest in sport, exercise and osteoarthritis.

There is an opportunity to be placed at the Universities of Bath, Nottingham, Leeds, Loughborough or Southampton and details about the specific projects can be found here.

At the University of Nottingham there is the opportunity to join our FIXIT study research team. The ‘Defining the anatomy load-bearing axis of the foot’ (FIXIT) study team is led by Clinical Associate Professor Dr Stefan Kluzek.

FIXIT is a cohort study on GB athletes to investigate the relationship between foot alignment/asymmetry and risk of injury. The intern project will involve looking at the reproducibility of foot medial and transverse arch assessments using ultrasound and force plates.

With access to elite athletes in different athletic environments including Loughborough and other UK training locations, the intern will have the opportunity to travel with the study team members to collect and analyse data. The study team currently comprises undergraduate and post-graduate students, research fellows and clinical academics with expertise which includes anatomy, sport and exercise science, sports medicine and osteoarthritis, allowing the successful intern to gain experience and training in multiple different research methods.

It is an unpaid internship, however up to £1000 can be paid towards living costs and travel.

The 2022 scheme will run for between 4th July – 26th August 2022, plus a dissemination day on the 6th September.

Applications close on 28th March 2022, with the interviews in mid May 2022 via Microsoft Teams.
